We would also like to give a big thank you to Aimee Hartman and the kindergarten class at Robinson elementary school for the beautiful cards for our veterans for veterans day.
The first of two Military Share Events scheduled for November with Second Harvest Food Bank took place yesterday at the Erie VA Outdoor Pavilion. This program provides food to needy veterans and their families. Currently, these events are being held in 4 of the 11 counties that Second Harvest Food Bank covers across the commonwealth.
While it was cold, the wind and rain did hold off. We had 88 families participate in the event. The food distributed yesterday included frozen strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, dried prunes, cottage cheese, cheese, milk, hot dogs, steaks, chicken, sausage, canned chicken soup, canned pears, cabbage, onions, dried split peas and potatoes. When I arrived at 3:50 there was already a line forming, and the distribution was not set to begin until 5:00 pm. Our next Military Share event is scheduled for Tuesday, 27 November 2018 at the Erie VA Outdoor Pavilion.
Besides myself from GMHS, the other groups that volunteered included VFW Post 740 Motorcycle Riders Group, VFW Post 740 Officers and Board of Directors, VFW Post 740 Auxiliary, Combat Veterans Motorcycle Riders Group Chapter 22-8, American Legion Post 742, VFW Post 470, Erie Veterans Miracle Center, GE Transportation Systems, Erie County Honor Guard and Burial Detail, James W. Parker Middle School, Fort LeBoeuf High School and Tracy Elementary School.
